One of America's greatest people has passed away due to com;complications of a Heart surgery.
Sad day for the American and people around the world, best known for being the first man to ever walk on the Moon.
Almost turned to Politics but turned it down.
RIP Neil.
Surprised they would do a bypass on a man that age. Funny thing: When he walked on the moon and in other broadcasts in 1969, he sounded like he was short of breath a lot. My mom read somewhere that an electrocardiogram or some of them showed an abnormality then. He shunned the spotlight from what I heard today. We lost a great person. I know I am showing my age here, but there was a downtown parade and welcoming here in Chicago that I went to with friends. The crowds were huge but it certainly was worth being with others who honored Neal and the other astronauts.
Wow. A great loss. I was shocked when I heard of his death.
I learned from a news story last night that he was in two missions before the one that took him to the moon, and something went terribly wrong with both of those missions. He was very brave to look death in the face a third time and go on that moon mission.
Astronauts in Armstrong's day new what bravery was. I know even in this day and age, going into space is dangerous, and the astronauts who do are brave men and women. However, back in Armstrong's time, so much was new, had never been tried or tested, and there weren't ways to do it without involving human life. Those men definitely looked death in the face, many did so several times, and continued to explore. I've read that in the Appollo 11 mission, there was a problem with the lunar module, and a concern that once they landed on the moon, the lunar module would not be able to make it back to the main craft. Those men could have been permanently trapped. Yet they landed, and thankfully were able to make it back. I'm not sure I'd have had the guts to make a landing when I didn't know if I could get home. So yes, RIP Neil Armstrong.
What more could be said? Thanks all for your tributes, and I share your sentiments. What a man he was.
